Johanna 'Hanna' Sakmirda

Mrs. Sakmirda died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Park Place of Ocala, Fla., an assisted living facility.Hanna was born in Hamburg, Germany, on Dec. 27, 1902. She came to the states in her early twenties, and made her life in New York City. She was employed for many years in the Joe Pilates exercise studio. Joe Pilates is the now-famous exercise guru who introduced the contrology method, which many studios are using today.She retired to Ernie Kroner's "Old Dutch Place" in Center Conway. She joined the Conway, Center Conway and Carroll County extension groups. She was an accomplished quilter and did excellent embroidery. She stayed with the group until she moved to Florida.She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Rosemary Stockmar, and several nieces and nephews in Germany and the states. She was predeceased by her husband and two sons.For the past 20 years, she has made her home in Ocala, Fla., living to 102 years and 5 months. She was an interesting and well-traveled lady, and will be sorely missed.
