Domestic Violence Awareness Month matters here in Carroll County. The issue is widespread, often hidden, and deeply harmful — and October gives communities a focused moment to learn, act and support survivors. Awareness saves lives by helping people recognize abuse and connect with resources.

Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior used to control a partner, and it can include physical, sexual, emotional and financial harm. It is far more common than many residents realize: national data show that 41 percent of women and 26 percent of men experience sexual violence, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetimes.
