Edward F. Butch McKowen III, 58, of Conway died June 23, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway following a sudden illness. Born in Fall River, Mass., the son of Edward F. and Margaret (Roy) McKowen, he grew up in Swansea, Mass. and lived in Conway for over 25 years.He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.Mr. McKowen had been employed by the Town of Conway Highway Department for 18 years. Butch was one of the original men to operate the Wall of Death Motor Drome. He traveled throughout the U.S. performing at different events in the 1960s. He was a member of several motorcycle clubs, the last one being the Mt. Washington Valley Fifth Chapter, which he was the founding president of. His family includes his wife, Cindy S. McKowen of Conway; one son, Brothaign J. McKowen of Conway; two daughters, Casey L. McKowen of Dover and Maureen McKowen of Georgia; one step-son, Randy Sayers of Conway; one step-daughter, Cody Sayers of Conway; two grandchildren; one brother, James McKowen of Mass., as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Edward F. McKowen IV, in 2001. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. A memorial service will be held Friday in one of the local churches, which will be announced at a later date.
