Bob and Ginny Mallon of Mountain Sports Massage recentlyattended a continuing education course, "Bodywork for Trauma and Abuse Survivors." The course was taught by Marie King Hardman RN, MS Ed., who is a licensed massage therapist, health educator and Reiki master.The program focusedonways massage therapistsmay aid in the treatmentof trauma and abusesurvivors. Massage therapists are taught to work closely with counselors to provide a safe and nurturing environment using human touch to aid in healing the scars of emotional and physical abuse.The Mallons offer each client a massage suited to their specific needs, with the client setting the boundaries of safe and healthy touch. "The client is always in control of the massage," they state.
