I’ve been shouting from my soapbox for sometime about the need for a small affordable pickup. Well, it seems someone was actually listening or maybe I just share a popular opinion. The only drawback may be it’s electric, although it checks a bunch of other boxes.
Slate Auto is positioning itself as the opposite of existing carmakers. Their proposed pickup is small, about the size of my 1983 Ford Ranger, smaller than a current Ford Maverick and to quote an old Henry Ford legend, it’s available “in any color the customer wants, as long as it’s” (in this case) gray. Inside are manual windows and knobs for climate control and no touch screens. That’s right, no infotainment at all. Want tunes or a podcast? Bring your Bluetooth speaker. And the target price? It’s $20,000 — less with EV tax credits (if any still exist).
