The dreaded state motor vehicle inspection. No one likes them. Let’s face it, they’re a crap shoot. Is the guy doing the inspection in a good mood? How’s his or her judgment? Are they going to nitpick the rust? It’s not like the fender’s falling off, it’s mostly attached. And those tires are fine. They hold air. That steel belt showing through gives it extra traction! The crack in the windshield only goes halfway across.

States that require motor vehicle inspections have guidelines regarding safety checks, but much is left to the discretion of the inspection technician.
