Anyone who has repaired their vehicle or had it serviced is familiar with First Brands Group, even if you don’t realize it. The auto parts supplier with the uninspired, generic name actually owns many popular brands that most enthusiasts know. Names like Autolite spark plugs, Centric and Raybestos brake parts, Fram filters, Anco and Trico wiper blades, Reese and Draw-Tite hitch parts, Carter fuel and water pumps, and Cardone remanufactured components as well as licensing rights to branded merchandise from Michelin, Westfalia, and Philips lighting. 25 separate brands in total. Some are less notable but they’re also a supply chain for several major automakers OEM — original equipment manufacturer parts.

To say that First Brands has a big influence on the auto parts sector is an understatement, and to say that their recent bankruptcy is having a profound effect on the availability of popular auto parts doesn’t do this situation justice. The ripple effect of First Brands collapse will be felt for long time, especially for owners of less popular vehicles. While other suppliers do exist and make similar auto parts, but the size and scope of First Brands failure is significant.
