ANDROSCOGGIN VALLEY — The first annual Light Fight was a big success with 25 residential and eight business entries.
Androscoggin Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Paula Kinney said hundreds of people drove around to view the entries.
The judges picked Mike and Renee Stewart’s house at 19 River St. in Berlin as the best-decorated residential display and Gorham House Florist at 10 Exchange St. in Gorham as the best business display.
The People’s Choice award for best residential display went to Steve Gouin, 32 Spring Road in Milan.
Each winner received $200.
Kinney said she was out checking entries on the final night of the contest, Dec. 23, and the streets were busy as people wanted to see the houses lit up.
She said some people told her they took their kids out in their pajamas with hot chocolate to look at the decorated houses. Others expressed how much they enjoyed going around looking at various houses and businesses.
Kinney said 339 people took the time to vote for the People’s Choice among the residential entries.
She said the chamber received lots of comments from people who remarked on how much they enjoyed decorated houses and businesses and thanked the chamber for holding the event.
“We decided to host the Light Fight in hopes of bringing back some community spirit and it worked,” Kinney said.
