French cyclist Quentin Pacher climbs Col de la Couillole on the Tour de France 2024. Unlike the rest of us, he looks great in spandex. Also unlike the rest of us, he probably doesn’t have to carry sunscreen, prescription meds and glasses in his fanny pack. (WIKIMEDIA PHOTO)

The Tour de France has come and gone and with it any dreams of yellow jersey-wearing glory. There will be no bursting from the peloton in the Pyrenees for us mere mortals. No rocking the cobblestone streets, no cheering crowds and no crossing the Paris Champs-Elysees finish line.

Instead, those experiences live with well-honed cycling legends like Eddy Merckx, Greg LeMond, Chris Froome and current champ Tadej Pogacar.
