TAMWORTH — The Barnstormers Theatre’s current offering carries the distinction of being the first-ever production to be mounted at the iconic summer theater. Aided by an able cast, along with flashes of backstage genius, “The Ghost Train,” written by Arnold Ridley and directed by Blair Hundertmark, is part farce and part melodrama combined with a whole lot of mystery.
The question “Does the eerie ghost train that has reportedly led to many unexplained deaths in Clear Vale Junction, Maine, really exist?” is what drives the action of this 1926-era thriller, which begins with someone aboard — that “idiot,” another character complains — pulling the emergency brake, stranding a motley group of passengers in a godforsaken Maine train depot in the middle of the night.
