It always seems precarious to submit this piece about a bird I will be scared to see whenever it actually does show up around my place in early April. A phoebe perched out the utility wire leading to the house is going to cause anxiety for me about its new presence, because of this deep snow winter we just had.

There won’t be many bugs for it to chase, and all the native berries are covered up within these snow depths still. What could it forage on? But these brave arrivals show up every year, as if none of them could die in these harsh conditions.
