Bees are still dying in record numbers. This is dangerous because honey bees are responsible for one-third of the foods we eat. They are the unsung heroes of American agricultural productivity. Their pollination covers crops such as berries, apples, nuts and avocados.

We could seriously unravel agricultural production all across this country — beekeepers are seeing their way of life disappearing. Other pollinators are in as much danger, even if we do not always recognize those particular flying insect species, landing on flower heads outside below our windows.
