M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass,” the conclusion to a trilogy that started with 2000’s “Unbreakable” and continued with the secret sequel “Split” in 2017, is a film that leans into audience expectations and then actively doesn’t deliver on them. This has lead to a harsh critical response, but Shyamalan’s film is too odd and intriguing to dismiss outright.
As a director, Shyamalan went from being seen as a wunderkind after the release of 1999’s “The Sixth Sense” to a punchline, after a series of diasterious films, including the unintentionally hilarious “The Happening” and the bloated would-be-blockbusters “The Last Airbender” and “After Earth.”
