CONWAY — Local author and historian Mj Pettengill will be at White Birch Books in North Conway on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m., signing her newly released historical novel, "The Angels’ Lament, Etched in Granite Historical Fiction Series, Book Two."
The book is set in 1872. It tells the story of 17-year-old Sarah Hodgdon, who, alone and determined, boards a train, trading farm life in New Hampshire for the textile mills of Fall River, Mass. Woefully disillusioned, she finds herself trapped in a brutal factory and living in a filthy tenement. She is tormented when she learns the fate of her family.
