CONWAY — In high school ski racing championships are decided in the slalom, and for the past six years, no one has been better than the Kennett High girls’ alpine team. The Eagles had a rough afternoon in slalom at the Division II State Meet at Pats Peak in Henniker on Thursday, while the Hanover girls skied well and took home the championship, ending Kennett’s record-setting six-year run as champs.

“Hanover had a really good day while we had some bumps in the road,” Laurel Zengilowski, Eagles’ head coach, said. “Kudos to them. We had a good day, but just had some falls in slalom, and the fact that other teams had great days meant we couldn’t make as many mistakes. When you have two skiers fall, you still have a shot, but when three go down, it’s probably not going to happen. We finished second (overall to Hanover) with three falls in slalom, that just never happens.”
