CONWAY — The Kennett High girls' track team successfully retained the prestigious Wilderness League Championship in Gilford on Saturday, while the KHS boys were eighth overall, just seven points out of fifth.

"I really didn't see this coming at all,” said Bernie Livingston, Eagles' head coach, of the victory by the girls, and he explained why. “I had no clue of the depth of the other schools. When we did the seedings, I was more than a little surprised we were seeded No. 1. Our girls went out on Saturday and did what was expected of them by coming as close to was expected. This was one of those meets where everyone pitched in, which I love to see. This is really our big team competition as we’re really more competitive here than in the Division II meet. I’m really proud of the girls and the boys. I think we had 17 individual or seasonal bests on Saturday.”
