PINKHAM NOTCH — The 47th annual Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb will crown two new champions next month. Last year’s men’s and women’s first-place finishers will not be returning, nor will any winners from previous years, ensuring two first-time overall winners on Aug. 17 at the summit of Mount Washington.

On the women’s side, the favorite is three-time runner up, Stefanie Sydlik who is primed for her first win on the Rockpile. Last year, Sydlik admits that she tried a new technique that she dubbed “Frankenstein Bike.” She stripped away sprockets and brakes to try to make her bike lighter. Her plan didn’t work out the way she hoped and as she put it, “I was uncomfortable the entire ride.”
