CONWAY — The Conway Recreation Department announced some of its winter programs this week. They are as follows:
K-2 Biddy Basketball
The Conway Parks & Recreation Department will be offering Biddy Basketball. This program is for children in grades K-2 and will focus on basic skills, such as dribbling, passing and shooting for the beginner. This program will also teach your child the terminology of basketball. There will be two sessions for this eight-week program with five weeks prior to the Christmas holiday break and three weeks after. Session I will take place on Monday afternoons from 3:45-4:30. Session II will take place on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:30 p.m. The cost of this program is $10 and includes a T-shirt. The registration deadline for this program is Thursday, Nov. 7. There is a limit of 25 kids per session, so don’t delay in registering your child.
The department will offer intramural basketball for kids in grades 3-6. The season for girls will begin on Monday, Nov. 11 and Tuesday, Nov. 12 for boys. This program will run through the second week in January. It takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for girls and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for boys. Typically participants will play twice a week depending on the schedule and number of participants. The registration deadline for this program is Thursday, Nov. 7. The cost of the program is $10 and includes a game shirt for the participant.
The department will be offering travel team basketball for girls and boys. This program will begin the first week in January and run through the first week in March. It is designed for children who wish to advance their basketball skills. Participants will play against other towns. There is a limit of 10 players per team. If there are more participants, there will be a tryout. Depending on the number of participants, it is the department’s hope to have a grade 5-6 and grade 3-4 travel team for both boys and girls. The registration deadline for this program is Dec. 9. The cost is $10.
The Conway Parks and Recreation Department has a new home. It is located on the campus of Kennett Middle School in Conway Village. All winter programs will take place in the Marshall Gymnasium, located in the new Conway Rec.
The rec bus will pick kids up from Pine Tree daily and deliver them to the new facility. Rec staff will dismiss Conway Elementary Students on the day of their programs at approximately 3:20 p.m.
The Conway Parks and Recreation Department staff is not responsible for the supervision of siblings who are not participating in programs.
Schedules for all programs will be handed out on the first day of the program as well as posted online at conwayrec.com by Nov. 11.
Parents wishing to volunteer should see administrative assistant Lynore Wagner to fill out a background check.
