Each year, I try to participate in “No Mow May” and let the lawn grow a bit with dandelions and other little flowering weeds for the pollinators to enjoy. This year, however, it seemed like we had so much rain that the lawn grew in half the time it normally takes. Still, I tried to stick it out as long as I could before giving in and cutting it. I watched with envy as my neighbor rode around trimming his somehow-already-perfectly-green lawn — with exceptionally straight lines — feeling not a single twinge of guilt for it being just halfway through the month. I almost gave in at that moment, but thought of the bees and felt badly for even considering it.
