Two Nordic ski instructors were having lunch after a morning of back-to-back lessons. It was a frigid day outside, with cold temperatures and brisk winds. As they ate and warmed up, someone asked, “How many layers do you have on?”

In cold weather, it’s a contest to see who has the most layers. When you hit five or more on top, it’s a chilly day. Each instructor has his/her blend of base, mid and outside layers. Years of experience taught them what keeps them warm teaching. Many carry extra mittens, hats and hand/foot warmers, just in case they’re short on insulation.
