A great out-of-the-way hiking suggestion for this time of year is the 1.4-mile Dearborn Trail up the south slope of Green Mountain (1,884 feet) in Effingham. I did it with my partner Beverly Woods of Wolfeboro last week on a partly cloudy day, when the warm sun would occasionally shine through the trees on the trail lighting the new pastel beech leaves.

I have climbed the Dearborn Trail three times, twice in the spring and once in winter. The first was in 2012 with Theresa Swanick of Effingham and her beautiful German shepherd of that time.
