Hiram from the Barnes Trail, Mount Cutler. (ED PARSONS PHOTO)

One recent morning, I was headed to Burnt Meadow Mountain in Brownfield, Maine. It is always a fun mountain to write about. But as I turned right at the monument in Fryeburg onto Route 113, it occurred to me that I had never been up Mount Cutler (1,232 feet) in Hiram, Maine, in the winter.

I have climbed Mount Cutler perhaps a half-dozen times since I found out there was a trail there, and it was a three-season hike for me. It is less traveled than the highly popular Burnt Meadow Mountain.
