Ed Parsons on the Red Hill fire tower

In 2021 I climbed the 3.6-mile loop over Red Hill (2030 feet) in Center Harbor with Tamworth friends Pam and Bruce Andruskiewicz. It was a cold day, and I remember the strong breeze standing on the fire tower, and looking out over the Lakes Region and the White Mountains.

Last Saturday we went back. It was colder. When we arrived in the parking lot off Red Hill Road around 10 a.m., there were only two cars there. We debated about using snowshoes because it was a little rocky under the 4 inches of new snow at the start of the trail. But we were glad we did. It quickly became apparent as we climbed that there was more snow on the mountain.
