It is fun to write about a spur of the moment hike. When I stepped out my door Thursday morning during the snow storm, I encountered a winter wonderland in the best sense. Big snowflakes — like clusters of cotton — fell at an unhurried pace and draped generously over the nearby tall pines. It was mild with no wind. I wanted to stay outside.

I called fellow Tamworth resident Barb Bloomberg, She was on the same page and said she was planning to snowshoe up Tamworth’s Great Hill. Did I want to come? She picked me up at 9 a.m.
