North Country Angling - landlocked salmon

Landlocked salmon is the king of New Hampshire’s game fish. (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

Anglers breathed a collective sigh of relief on Thursday when the fall rain finally arrived. Those in the know understand that without a big push of water from rivers into lakes, fall runs of salmon will not take place.

The top river system choice for landlocked salmon is the Bearcamp River and the Swift River in Tamworth. The Bearcamp is a prime nursery river for reproducing landlocks. When fishing the Bearcamp River in the summer, landlocked salmon parr are caught. Please make sure to release these fish immediately. They are the future of the landlocked salmon fishery in Ossipee Lake.
