In the spring of 2016, my husband and I spent a lot of time on Maine’s Eastern Trail in Scarborough, Maine. It was there on a kiosk that I first saw a flyer about “Closing the Gap.”
The “gap” was a short section between Greenbelt/Eastern Trail’s Bug Light to South Portland section and Scarborough’s off-road Eastern Trail section. It’s only a 1.6-mile gap, but an important link between the two. Until just recently, the only connection was on busy roads, with few bike lanes.
