First presented in June with a plan to install paid parking in North Conway Village, Conway selectmen will consider approving it at Tuesday’s selectmen meeting. Town Manager John Eastman, who is proposing it, said last summer that at $2 an hour for 400 spots, it would generate “serious money.” Eastman cited Bar Harbor, Maine, which made $1.5 million in 2019. North Conway Village merchants and workers vehemently oppose the idea. They say paid parking will be an inconvenience that will discourage shoppers and frustrate employees, who will have to find alternative parking and other locals who have appointments in town.
This week's Tele-talk question: Is the inconvenience to shoppers, merchants and employees worth the revenue paid parking will generate?
