Jeff Locke is an All Star. The 2006 Kennett High grad came into this season with a 1-6 record, and, after, losing his first start April 7, went the next three months undefeated and has helped the Pittsburgh Pirates to the best record in the National League. He's 8-2 with a 2.15 ERA, second best in the league, and was named to the National League All Star team, which will take on the American League Tuesday at Citi Field in New York. The community is buzzing with pride and excitement over the accomplishment, as was also the case in the winter of 2010 with North Conway's Leanne Smith skied for the U.S. team in the Vancouver Olympics. She will likely be competing in the 2014 Olympics as well. Great sports accomplishments don't always occur on the big stage, either. There have been many state champions crowned at Kennett High and Fryeburg Academy over the years. Athletes from this community have cleared hurdles and literally conquered mountains.
This week's Tele-Talk question: What do you think is the greatest sports accomplishment by a local athlete or team?
