To the editor:

In his Aug. 8 column, Tom McLaughlin recently took a jaunt in Portland sporting his MAGA hat and was dismayed by the somewhat unwelcoming reception he received at a liberal arts festival. I do sincerely commend his courage (and his wife, the patience of who no doubt feels some sympathy for the brown children separated from their mothers) because it’s way easier to march in a crowd carrying tiki torches than it is to do so alone.
