To the editor:

I don't know that the man who took the worst economy in 80 years and made it number one in the world is the worst president ever, but I'm reasonably assured that the increasingly estimable William Marvel is the worst residential historian I have ever shaken my head over.

Aside from his rhetorical excess, the salient features of Marvel's essays include failure to understand and write about the pathologies that threaten our democracy and a willful ignorance of Twentieth century history.
