To the editor:

If one just Googles it, one will find article after article that tells us that medication-assisted treatment in jails makes sense. The county’s professional staff member tells us that MAT in our jail makes sense. Leaders in the community who are passionate about figuring out solutions to the drug epidemic and the opioid overdose crisis tell us that MAT in our jail, as part of a wide-ranging effort, makes sense. I’m stunned that only one commissioner voted in favor of supporting the request from the county’s jail superintendent.
