For a long time now, Bill Marvel has been a one-trick pony. We know he doesn’t want his tax dollars going to educate our future citizens. And it really disturbs Bill that teachers make a decent living with benefits.
Apparently, Mr. Marvel pointing out how the schools are over spending and under performing makes this guy angry. Schools (public) across the country are doing the same almost everywhere. Teacher's unions are an industry and don't give a damn for the kids success.
Bill has taken the time and energy to methodically and logically lay out the problems plaguing our public schools. Rather than getting defensive and distilling it down to teachers making "a decent living", why not address the issues:
Decreasing academic performance.
Increasing budgets.
Decreasing population/attendance.
After all, isn’t the prime objective of Public Schools the education of our children and achieving academic excellence?
I have never had a job that didn't require me the make an account for my performance, or justify my position.
For far too long Teachers and Administrators have escaped such mundane responsibilities as performance evaluations and standards. They rationalize this by declaring such structures as antithetical to the educational process, with actual results being far too difficult to calculate or measure. They even argue that the outcomes of Standardized Testing is arcane and unreliable rather than addressing the precipitous decline in scores.
Meanwhile, Unions continue to protect and harbor poor performers, shifting the priority from the students to that of the teachers.
One thing is certain, the Public School paradigm is unsustainable if it continues on its current trajectory. If the teachers don’t have the desire and ability to be introspective, or the fortitude to confront the obvious, they just may not have a job before too long as parents seek alternatives.
