To the editor:

Gov. Chris Sununu is acting like the bumbling mayor of Amity. Instead of realistically facing a threat to our environment, health and way of life, he berates the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services for correctly informing the public about recent cyanobacteria blooms. He reminds me of Donald Trump when that dunderhead said, “If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few cases (of coronavirus).” How do people become this dense? Does it come naturally, or do they work hard at it?

I know nothing about blooms of bacteria in waters, but I would like to comment on the writer's characterization of Trump's reaction to Coronavirus testing.

Coronavirus appears to have been a manufactured virus which led to a pandemic. The manufacturer was the Chinese Communist Party in Wuhan. The virus led to many deaths and a lot of economic destruction. However, as most pathogens go, the virus mutated into a less harmful version so it could infect more hosts. Now, it appears to be about as virulent as the flu.

During the Covid pandemic, everyone was being tested and there was a lot of misinformation and speculation. Some of that misinformation was from government officials. And when skeptical scientists wanted to post their opinions or observations, they were censored by the government, the medical establishment, and social media. This was not America's finest hour. For example, the government refused to count natural immunity as a protection against reinfection. So people who had gotten infected were still required to get the vaccine, which turned out not to be particular effective (but perhaps was better than nothing.)

So the way I read Trump's comments, he did not want every death or hospitalization to be attributed to Coronavirus, unless it was the cause. This was meant to lower anxiety about the virus and to put its toll into a proper perspective.

For example, we wouldn't want to test every car-accident victim for Coronavirus and assume that it caused the accident.

Trump is not a health expert and perhaps his opinion was wrong. People can listen to his thoughts and decide whether to take action or not.

If you start repeating some of the quotes from experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci, you would also come up with many opinions that were wrong or misleading. At least with Trump, you know he is just giving his opinion and he isn't a doctor.

Like many letters in the Conway Sun, the writer seems to have an agenda. Let's criticize the Republicans and Trump because we need their candidates to lose in November. Hopefully this strategy will not work, because the Democrats, led by Kamala Harris, would be a disaster for the country.

G, you really should have stopped at "I know nothing", then your comment would have been accurate.

The Coronavirus has not been proven to have originated in the lab in Wuhan, much less to have been manufactured by the Chinese Communist Party. This is a widespread conspiracy theory the Right has been pushing since day one. (Not that it couldn't turn out to be true, but there's no evidence to support the claim)

There was a lot of misinformation and disinformation surrounding Covid, the most damaging coming from Trump while in the White House, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans with his lies.

Many on the Right seem to be confused about what an expert like Dr. Fauci is. They aren't gods, they're people, they're the best experts we've got on this type of thing, but it doesn't mean they're going to be right every time. While they were unknowingly wrong at times, Trump knowingly lied, as we know from recordings of him telling people in private how bad Covid was going to be, while months later he was still lying to the public about how mild it was, it was just a flu, it was going to go away magically overnight, etc., etc.

The government under Trump was one of the bigger problems as far as misinformation and disinformation, under Biden they tried to stop some of that. Most of the time they were right, as a lot of the information being put out that they were trying to stop was harmful. They were also wrong at times, though not very often.

You are wrong that the vaccine was not particularly effective, they've been proven over and over again to be safe and effective. The Right still raises ridiculous claims and conspiracy theories, but they don't hold up to the facts.

The Right also completely overlooks Long Covid, which has been estimated to have at least one symptom affect up to 80% of people who got Covid. I was always more worried about that once information started coming out about it, as I'm a competitive athlete, and didn't want long-term issues with fatigue, etc. It doesn't matter to someone like Trump, but for me it was a big motivating factor in getting vaccinated and boosted.

Your take on Trump's quote, which Cornelia accurately cited, is pure insanity. What Trump said was plain and simple stupid Trump at his worst. He wasn't talking about parsing information about deaths or hospitalizations, he is literally so stupid he just wanted them to test less so the numbers wouldn't look as bad. Because remember, his Covid response was entirely geared to trying not to look bad, because that's all he cares about, himself. Of course, it says a lot about you and your ability to delude yourself that you can try to ascribe something different to a quote so plain and clear.

You're the one with an agenda, your attempted gymnastics to twist Trump's quote is just one of many ridiculous claims you've made trying to defend Trump and deny the facts. Give it up, Trump is indefensible, and the facts will always prove your claims are lies.

Trump has already proven to be a disastrous president, we don't need four more years to close the case on that, plus we also know it would be much worse due to what Trump's already said about his plans, plus Project 2025. There is no proof whatsoever that Harris being elected would be "a disaster for the country". As usual, you're spouting off MAGA lies and conspiracy theories.
