To the editor:My 12-year-old daughter read in The Conway Daily Sun, that the Conway Recreation Center was in danger of losing their funding. She came to me and asked me if there was anything she could do. She goes to the Rec Center frequently and wanted to help. She is a member of the Junior Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 46 in Conway and asked if she could hold a benefit dance. She made all the arrangements and on Nov. 1, she hosted a benefit bingo and dance party for 5th- and 6th-graders. Aside from a couple of minor problems, the event went very well with about 26 kids attending. The kids raised $125 for the Rec Center. It went so well in fact that the kids have said they would like to do a dance once a month. This event wouldn't have gone as well if it were not for friends, family and the area businesses that Mandy and I would like to thank very much:The American Legion Post 46, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion for their donations; Cynthia and Brian Madden (for his diligence in gathering donations), Larry and Angie Ayres, Katie Tolias, Heather and Adam Eastman and a few parents for their help and chaperones. And for their gracious donations: Discount Beverage, Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Nicky I's, Boston's Best Roast Beef, First Stop, Fire 21, Flatbread Co., Hannaford, Brennan's Pizza, Cafe Noche. I apologize if I forgot anyone.P.S. Another dance was held on Dec. 6 with about 30-plus kids attending. We are having a great time with this and greatly appreciate all the help and donations we receive. Thank you again.
