To the editor:I could not in good conscience let Archie Fryar misrepresent the Bible and say nothing. His letter of Aug. 22 is a good example of not only mixing truth with error, but knowing just enough of scripture to be dangerous. The whole text of the Bible needs to be used to research a topic such as this. You chose only to use selective scripture to prove your point. Yes, its true certain foods in the Old Testament were prohibited for us to eat. Only God knew the dangerous organisms in pork and certain shellfish and birds. This was Gods protection, not punishment. Later, Peter, in Acts was given permission to call these animals common and OK to eat. You kinda left that part out. Also, you mentioned Matthew 5:17 and 18, but only quoted verse 18. You forgot to mention in verse 17 that Christ came to fulfill. You see, when Christ spoke those words, he was saying that every letter of every word of the Old Testament was vital and would be fulfilled. Under the Mosaic law, a lamb was sacrificed for the remission of sins. It was to be an unblemished perfect lamb. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin Hebrews 9:22. God could have eradicated sin from the earth by ridding the earth of sinners. Instead, he chose his son to be our sin. He was the fulfillment of the Old Testament scripture. He was the ultimate sacrifice, no more is needed. It was finished at the cross. So yes, according to scripture, the dietary and sacrificial laws have been abolished. What hasnt changed one jot or tittle, however, is mans relationship to man and mans relationship to God. Never in scripture will you find marriage outside of one man and one woman. You say Jesus never condemned homosexualitythats true. But he clearly defended the sanctity of marriage, Matthew 19:5. He also said he did not come into the world to condemn the world, he came that men might be saved. He came to show us the way out. But dont be fooled. While he came the first time as a meek gentle lamb, scripture tells us hes coming back as the lion of Judah and all vengeance will be his. There will be a judge, but no jury, a prosecutor, but no defender and a sentence, but no parole. Are you ready for this? So you can go back and eat your lobster and pork chops and sleep with your football if you want to. But I would turn off that football game, at least at half-time, and open up the word of God. Your eternal future is at stake and you need a game plan.
