“The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” Is this true? American essayist and social critic H.L. Mencken wrote these words. But why? And what do they mean? At first glance, this sentence seems simple, but it morphs into something complex when you apply it to the modern world. In contemporary society, people desire more than freedom or security.

In contemporary society young adolescents desire more than freedom or security. Today’s teenagers have it hard, and I don’t intend to imply that past generations did not, what I mean is that the advancement of technology has completely shifted the way children grow up, learn, interact, express themselves and live their lives.
