A Washington Post column by Jason Willick titled, “The dark side of active citizenship” was one of three columns grouped together and disseminated via email newsletter under the more general heading, “A no-joke case for disengaging from politics.”

The idea of disengagement roped me in. Scott and I were away from home for the week, and were thus provided a spoon-fed opportunity to embrace this sage recommendation and “unplug” for the duration of our hiatus.
