The former president has frequently been referred to as a threat to democracy. And, of course, he is. He has no regard for the will of the people. But our constitutional republic’s checks and balances kinda worked. A handful of people stood in the way of an effort to overturn the 2020 election. The vice-president, the chairman of the joint chiefs, 60+ judges (many appointed by President Trump), and (belatedly) the attorney general told him no — no coup for you.

There is another, slower moving, but more unstoppable threat to America’s form of government. The Supreme Court and its nine, lifetime-appointed, unaccountable justices who have stepped into the vacuum created by an incapable Congress and incompetent presidents.

Very good letter. If Trump becomes President once again, this time he will make sure there are no checks and balances. He wants all the power with nothing to stop him.
