CONWAY — A man accused of a nonfatal shooting Wednesday on West Side Road was in Conway Circuit Court Thursday morning where his attorney made a self-defense claim on his behalf and a judge  ordered him held on $5,000 cash bail.

William Middleton, 29, of Conway was charged with second-degree assault for allegedly shooting a pistol and striking 26-year-old Calvin Kalil in the right leg. The shooting occurred at 10:24 p.m. at 590 West Side Road.
