CONWAY — The town recently shared wih the Sun its response to the Bluebird Project founders and several other residents who are concerned about the town's rental licensing program.Â
Owners of rental units, both long- and short-term, are now required to apply for a rental license. Owners of one- and two-unit buildings may use a self-affidavit form until Jan. 26 to attest they would pass a 10-point inspection. The deadline for larger complexes is Jan. 1. The fee is $125, but for a three-year license it is $375. For three-to-11-unit buildings it is $500 for three years. For 12 or more units, it is $375 for a one-year license.
renting homes is a slippery slope. When people work to covert their homes into businesses there is a need to regulate them. This practice leads to increasingly problematic rentals because it inherently exacerbates the housing crisis and desperate people are taken advantage of in substandard and often dangerous or over priced rental situations like basement apartments. we see it in every resort community in the usa. i’m my town we now tax rentals in the same fashion as hotels to help support the community. affordable rentals for community housing are exempt from the tax. The conway area needs to be proactive to take care of its residents, monitor the rental housing inventory and support worker or community housing which in turn supports the businesses. it’s all connected.
