BERLIN — The Berlin Fire Department has received national recognition for its rescue of a deer from the Androscoggin River last week.
Ingrid Newkirk, president of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, notified Firefighters Union Local 1088 it would receive a “Compassionate Fire Department Award” for rescuing the deer.
