OSSIPEE — The retirement of Ossipee Police Chief James "Jimmy" Eldridge, following 30 years in law enforcement, was announced at the selectmen's Aug. 27 meeting.

Selectman's Chair Rick Morgan, who also once served as an Ossipee police chief, read Eldridge's resignation letter aloud. Morgan said that the town was aware for months of Eldridge's plans to retire and that the letter was merely a formality.
