GORHAM — On Nov. 18, Frank Carus, director of the Mount Washington Avalanche Center, issued a news bulletin announcing big changes coming to the daily Avalanche Forecasts that have been around for decades.

Instead of forecasting avalanche conditions for 18 specific terrain features in Tuckerman and Huntington Ravines, the center would issue a forecast covering the entire northern Presidential Range and seven data points in the Ravines.
