CONWAY — Conway Elementary School is a place where everyone knows your name. For the past six years, the Cougars have been practicing Social-Emotional Learning/Mindfulness, getting in the zone to learn in a safe haven, where everyone is on the same page — it’s a family-like atmosphere, that begins the minute students set foot in the K-6 elementary school.

“We greet every student that walks into this school by name,” Brian Hastings, who is in his 18th year as principal at Conway El, said Wednesday. “They’re transitioning from home to school, so the greeting, it’s a hello, it’s a welcome, it’s 'a glad to see you.' That’s like the first step in the process. If you walk through the building, you’re going to see teachers greeting kids.”
