LEWISTON, Maine — U.S. Rep. Jared Golden (D-Lewiston) announced Wednesday that he will not seek re-election in 2026.

Golden, 43, is a Marine veteran who has served Maine's 2nd Congressional District since 2019, when he defeated Republican Bruce Poliquin. The huge district, which covers 27,326 square miles, comprises nearly 92 percent of the state's total land and includes several western Maine towns, including Fryeburg.
