CONWAY — Starting in August, people will be able to get around Conway on rentable Bird e-scooters, after selectmen gave their approval to the idea by a 3-2 vote Tuesday.

Jeremy Lynch, a senior account executive for Bird Rides Inc., gave a presentation to selectmen over video conference at their Tuesday meeting. He described Bird as “micro mobility company” founded in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2017.

I've experienced these scooters in tourist cities/towns. They are obnoxious, left everywhere, stolen, disabled, and a hazard to pedestrians. Good luck.

These scooters don't belong in a small, quaint beautiful mountain valley. These scooters are for large concrete jungles, not for places like N. Conway. They cheapen the look of the town laying all over the sidewalks, they are hazardous in a small area that have many people walking around with children and dogs. What's next? Party bars pulled by trucks like in Nashville? With the number of bar rooms in the village how many drunks will be navigating scooters through a sea of people? This should have been voted down by a 5-0 vote.
