CONWAY — Selectmen unanimously decided last week to postpone Independence Day fireworks and live events like the Fourth of July parade through Conway until the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.Â
Chairman David Weathers said at their April 21 meeting, "I'm so patriotic that I'd really like to see a parade. To have a Fourth of July without a parade, it's really tough to take, but you have to look at the health risks."
I think it's pretty clear that our town is in dire financial condition. Everything we have come to love about Conway is starting to fall apart, and it's going to remain that way until businesses start opening and revenue is generated. Do you honestly think everyone is going to pay their July taxes after being forced closed for months or potentially longer? Don't count on it. It sounds like this town is going to go out of business before Atlas Fireworks does. This is what our Governor and politicians have brought us to. All the quaint things that we love we be put on hold for a LONG TIME !!
