TAMWORTH — The town’s new recycling center opened with pomp and ceremony on Tuesday, with a ribbon-cutting marking the culmination of six years of planning. About 50 people were on hand to hear opening remarks followed by a ribbon-cutting at the site at 550 Ossipee Mountain Highway (Route 25) next to the transfer station. It is open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Wednesdays and weekends.
The recycling center has already been operating on a limited “soft opening” basis for about a month. With new compactors, storage containers, balers, heavy equipment and improvements to the adjacent transfer station, including an employee bathroom and water supply, officials say the facility is now equipped to significantly expand the amount of material Tamworth can divert from the waste stream.
