CONWAY — A Chatham woman is calling a Conway police officer a hero for rushing their 3-year-old grandson to an ambulance when he was in the throes of a severe respiratory attack. The officer says the rescue was a team effort and a higher power must have put them in the right place at the right time to respond.

The story unfolded late Monday night into Tuesday morning, after Diane Vladyka of Chatham noticed her grandson, Connor Stewart, 3, of whom she has custody, wasn't snoring. Connor has significant respiratory issues, and she knew if he wasn't snoring, that indicated he wasn't breathing. Vladyka said Connor's rescue inhalers and nebulizer weren't helping him breathe.
