To acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Conway Daily Sun is printing occasional stories related to breast cancer, including survivors' own stories.

I'm celebrating so far six years breast cancer-free. When I found out with my own breast exam and went to the doctor's and was told I had cancer, I could not believe it. All I could think was "not me." And then I made up my mind: Cancer was not going to beat me. I went to Scarborough, Maine, and got the operation done. I drove to Scarborough for 43 treatments. I stayed positive, went about my daily life with wonderful support from my Lord, Jen's Friends and family.
